Just wanted to share this Testimonial from Linda Concheri...  Thank you Linda!

As a mom of a special needs child with a complex medical history and austim I struggle daily with finding appropriate recreational activities to enroll him in and find it difficult to find a group to accept him.

At Bruce McCorry's Martial Arts I feel at home. They are patient and understanding of my child's disabilities, they have instilled confidence in a child that struggles daily with everyday tasks.

They have the ability to work around whatever my son struggles with.

They not only welcome my son and see past his disabilities, they have also welcomed me and respect my concerns. For example; I have enrolled my son in their summer workshop with typical peers and they were more than willing to give him one on one support and help him with his social needs.

If you looking for a program like this. I highly recommend Bruce McCorry's Martial Arts.

Thanks for everything you do.

Best,
Linda Concheri

Tai Chi is an ancient martial art hailing from the land of China. Steeped in mysticism, there is confusion around the name of the art.

Tai Chi is commonly understood to refer to the slow, almost meditative style of exercise. It is based on the martial art of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, which is sometimes referred to as Taiji. This confusion is a result of differing  translations of Chinese characters.

The practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan is the same as other martial arts, it involves practicing techniques with a partner like Judo or Karate. Tai Chi techniques consist of the same movements but, performed solo.

Qigong, Chi Gung and Chi Kung are all English translations of the same Chinese root. It's an important part of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and consists of meditation. In addition, students are taught to harness the power of their life force, in Chinese thought, referred to as Chi. In the days before exercise systems became a form of combat as martial arts, individuals tapped the mysterious power of chi for self-healing, self-discovery, even self-realization.

Practitioners of Qigong are famed worldwide for their amazing feats of strength and endurance. The ability to break steel bars over their head is not uncommon! A short look at some footage of Shaolin monks, who also practice a form of Qigong, will reveal many imaginative ways in which the power of Chi is demonstrated.

The importance placed on the internal aspect of martial arts within Tai Chi marks it radically different to many other martial arts, whose primary emphasis are on the external and technical aspects of combat. Whilst there is nothing to stop a T'ai Chi Ch'uan practitioner doing the kind of intense conditioning a Muay Thai boxer undertakes, the art is known primarily as an internal martial art focusing on more than pure power. This focus has left it open to criticism from some advocates of the external styles.

We believe the attainment of a healthy blend of the internal and external aspects are the responsibility of every martial artist to pursue individually. This is why our classes are personalized for each student depending on their own needs and goals.

It is undeniable that T'ai Chi Ch'uan has real self-defense value, and as seen with Aikido, the more circular flowing arts are excellent against weapon attacks, often succeeding where brute force would result only in bloodshed. Here at Bruce McCorry's Academy we place real emphasis on effective self-defense!

In addition, the art of Tai Chi is famed for its long-lasting impact on mind, body and soul. Having worked with students suffering from arthritis, MS, strokes, muscle diseases and a variety of other ailments, we have seen firsthand, the health benefits this martial art has to offer.

With the physical benefits including improved balance, better flexibility and more zest for life, we look forward to seeing you at our academy.

We offer a free introductory class and we hope the benefits to our members will shine through enough that you decide to join us. We are proud to be ambassadors for this beautiful art. Together with Tai Chi, we are stronger.

Why try Cardio Kickboxing

Cardio Kickboxing is the combination of martial arts, boxing, and
aerobics. It is a popular fitness regimen that has been used by people who
want to get in shape and get healthy. The workouts done in Cardio
Kickboxing are inspired by martial arts, which made this fitness program
very popular. Its routines are characterized by high intensity intervals
with toning recovery periods, this lets you burn more calories and have
better muscle definition.

The Cardio Kickboxing fitness program is an intense full-body workout. It
improves ones strength, fitness, coordination, balance and flexibility. An
hour of Cardio kickboxing lets you burn about 600 to 800 calories. People
who grow bored with jogging on a treadmill will find Cardio kickboxing as
an amazing alternative. Above all others, Cardio kickboxing is fun,
because
coupled by upbeat music, and an enthusiastic and energetic instructor that
challenges you mentally and physically. Not only is it a great way to stay
in shape and get healthy, it is also a great stress reliever.

Cardio kickboxing has a lot of benefits:

1. It helps you lose the excess weight.
- Cardio kickboxing is an aerobic workout, the workout increases your rate
which in turn helps to burn the excess fat.

2. It improves your coordination.
- The basic movements and combinations of kicks and punches help improve
your balance. Your reflexes are also sharpened because of the workouts.

3. It improves and strengthens your cardiovascular system.
- Because of the constant movement, jumps, weaves, punches, and kicks,
your heart rate and blood circulation are sped up, strengthening your
cardiovascular system.

4. It saves time.
- This is because every part of your body is worked out during the one
hour Cardio kickboxing session. Cardiovascular and respiratory fitness,
including flexibility, strength and endurance are all covered in one
session.

5. It reduces stress.
- High intensity work outs, particularly Cardio kickboxing, replace
endorphins you lose when your body becomes stressed.

6. It builds your total body strength.
- Punches with power and precision help build upper and lower body
muscles. Your hamstrings also become stronger as you master the way of
kicking properly. Muscles on the abdomen are worked out while performing
most of the moves required in one kickboxing session. Core strength is
also
developed as you perform the routines.

7. It develops self-defense.
- Punching and kicking are self-defense skills that are developed when
performing in a Cardio kickboxing class. Practicing kickboxing moves and
combinations on a punching bag can help you learn about gauging the
distance of your movements. You also start to develop a sense of the
limitations and strengths that you may have.

An average person could easily perform Cardio kickboxing. It is not only a
great fitness program, but also very fun to do. The first lessons might be
a little uncoordinated and off, since some moves will be new to your body,
not just your brain. Routines are mostly comprised of basic combinations.
With practice, any person is able to understand the routine. Give Cardio
kickboxing at least 3 to 5 classes in order for you to grasp the basic
movements. Most of the routines only combine general moves in different
patterns.

There are a lot of benefits in Cardio Kickboxing. It relieves stress and
improves both our mind and body. So why not give it try? Get it in shape,
get healthy, and work out your body. Try out Cardio Kickboxing now at

Celebrating 35 Years!

Bruce McCorry's Martial Arts Academy in Peabody Ma was established in 1978
and has been focused on creating a school which thrives on experience,
discipline and establishing self esteem in all its students. They have
several programs appealing to a wide variety of interests. Traditional
martial arts such as Taekwondo and Kung Fu are featured along with
relaxing methods like yoga and Tai Chi Chuan. For those interested in learning
different martial arts and some gymnastics combined, there is Xtreme
Martial Arts (or XMA). Cardio Kickboxing is offered to those who are
interested in high intensity focused workouts.

Tae Kwon Do, originating from Korea, is known for strong foot techniques
and high kicks. Both adults and children learn focus, respect and control.

Kung Fu is a martial art from China that has existed over 4,000 years.
It's focus on physical and mental training has been handed down through
generations.

Mixed Martials Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a
wide variety of fighting techniques from a mixture of martial arts
traditions and non-traditions used in competitions. Train like the
professionals without the injuries with their safely designed MMA
Programs.

In addition, there is a summer martial arts programs that not only
includes classes but two field trips per week, playing games and learning
arts and crafts, complimenting other group activities.

All programs help children build self confidence, self discipline, improve
concentration and a healthy, positive attitude.

Also featured is an after school program nationally recognized (AMP). This
program (After School Martial Arts Program) has been developed by
educators incorporating confidence building and fun games. Often parents complain
about the habits picked up at day care centers by their children but after
joining this program, the parents see positive changes in their behavior.
Another great selling point of this program is that the children are
picked up at their school and brought to the academy. The costs are the same as a
day care program and parents can be reassured their children are in a safe
environment.

Bruce McCorry's, unlike other martial arts schools, has a program focusing
on students with special needs such as autism, Down Syndrome and ADD.
These programs have been successful in assisting with self confidence and group
participation.

The Academy also sells all equipment needed for martial arts. Available
for sale are Kung Fu pants, re-breakable boards, kicking targets, martial
arts shoes, chest, head and shin guards.

Bruce McCorry has over 45 years experience in studying and teaching
martial arts. Mr. McCorry specializes in the art of Taekwondo amongst
other forms of martial arts. He also studied under and remains affiliated with
one of the Grand Masters. He also specializes in a different kind of Kung
Fu and Tai Chi, earning high level master accomplishment in 1982. In
addition, he has studied in China and Brazil. Mr. McCorry has earned many
awards for his focus on the martial arts community and special needs.

Some of our latest testimonials from our proud members.

I have been attending Bruce McCorry's Tae Kwon Do class for about 1 and a half years. The classes have been a great way for me to compliment my existing workouts. At my age (42) I find my muscles get very tight which leads to soreness and injury. The classes have helped me stay limber and reduce injury. I also have had a long standing problem with my knee (having had multiple knee surgery's). After the last surgery I was surprised when my doctor advised I continue with TKD, that it would help my knee. My muscles have become stronger as has my balance (a big challenge with my knee) and I feel much better overall. Definately consider TKD and watch what you eat if you have existing ailments or are looking for a healthier lifestyle. Everyone (staff and students) are helpful and friendly at McCorry's. They are serious about respect and the arts, but appreciate everyone has a unique objective and skill set. Expect a great deal of personal attention. Great place!

Christopher Concheri

Bruce Mc Corrys has been wonderful for my son. He began taking classes when he was in 6th grade. He was very shy and was bullied in school. After coming to classes he is more confident, outgoing and careing individual. He is a freshman in college and has turned out to be a wonderful young man. I believe this is because of the wonderful staff at Bruce McCorry's. Thank You and I hope you keep changing peoples lives for many more years.

Jo Ann

To Whom It May Concern,
Bruce McCorry has been instrumental in successfully implementing the Jhoon Rhee system of Taekwondo into the Chelsea School System. The program has had a positive impact on many of the children in the schools. In fact, I have received student petitions to continue the program into the summer months.

 Peter R. Greer
He has tried to instill in all the children the ideas of “knowledge in the mind, honesty in the heart, and strength in the body.” Mr. McCorry has motivated the students in Chelsea to “live” these ideas and encouraged them to remain in school.

We implemented the Taekwondo program in the Chelsea Schools as an alternative to Physical Education classes that were eliminated due to budget cuts. We were convinced that this new program would be an attendance incentive.

I recommend Master Bruce McCorry as an instructor of public school students in the system of Taekwondo.

Sincerely,

Since my son started with Bruce McCorry's Martial Arts Academy five months ago I have seen his confidence level soar, as well as physical ability strengthen. He has PDD-NOS, or a form of autism. My primary goal with him doing martial arts was to help strengthen his core and provide an additional outlet for him to "blow off some steam", but it has resulted in so much more for him.
  April Odonney
His teachers and therapists at school have commented, over the course of the last few months, that he is more focused and attentive and also seems to be coming out of his shell since he is a child that is reserved and will shy away from being the "leader". The instructors have a special way of connecting with each student and, as a result, the program has far exceeded my expectations. I see my son being part of the Bruce McCorry's Martial Arts Academy well into his adulthood."

I appreciate everything your entire staff is doing. This program is such a great fit for Cassius as well as any other child with or without special needs. I do hope that as my other son grows and develops he too will be able to part of the program, because I know he would benefit from it.

Thanks,
