Martial Arts for Everyone at Bruce McCorry’s Academy
It is a pervading myth around martial arts that some are better at it than others. Adults sometimes seem to think that it will be too much for children, men sometimes seem to think that women cannot attempt difficult martial arts. In general, people doubt whether practicing martial arts beyond an age is possible. If you ask an expert, however, you will get an answer that shatters all these myths. Martial arts is for everyone, and everyone has some or other benefit to achieve by practicing martial arts.
Choices for Everyone: Bruce McCorry’s Martial Art Lessons
Since 1978, Bruce McCorry’s Academy (Peabody, MA) has been offering martial art lessons that are open to all, with many choices for learners to pick from. Divided into four major categories, the programs at the academy cover the needs of men and women; children, adults and seniors. These broad choices include:
- The Little Ninja’s: An easy-to-learn preschooler martial art program that tries to improve the basic skills and abilities necessary for the growth and development of preschoolers, taught through fun and enjoyable martial art activities. The preschooler program helps in general to build cognitive and motor skills, improve communication and language, and boost the development of brain through simple activities.
- Juniors: Aimed at children between 7 and 12 years, this beneficial foundation course aims at making children healthier, happier and successful human beings. Children can also choose to learn martial arts at Bruce McCorry’s just during the afterschool hours through the nationally recognized Afterschool Martial Arts Program; or just in the holiday months through the exciting Summer Program. In general, the programs for children will help them to get better grades, overcome issues such as bullying, peer pressure and study stress through martial arts, perform better in sports and athletics, and help children to be fit and healthy.
- Teen/Adult Programs: From the age of 13, you can join the Teen/Adult programs at Bruce McCorry’s. The range of martial arts offered in this category includes Taekwondo, Kung-Fu, Tai Chi, Cardio Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Xtreme Martial Arts and much more. Although the program is commonly open to anyone above an age of 13, you can get customized and age-specific attention from our instructors, who will help you focus on specific goals—health, fitness, self-defense, stress-relief and so on. Seniors too can be a part of the courses under the adult program.
- Special Needs: For those who are differently abled, mentally and physically, the Special Needs program is a great way to learn how to improve the quality of their lives through simple martial arts that can easily be practiced. Many of the conditions such as autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome and ADD can also be helped through martial arts to a great extent.
Four decades of working with martial arts has been a revelatory experience, which proved it to the academy that age, gender, capability or any other qualifiers are no bar to learning the universal art that is martial arts. Each program at the academy is designed on the foundation of this belief, equally blending the wealth of age-old martial art traditions with modern clinical and psychological research. To experience the kind of martial art that you cannot experience anywhere else, come to Bruce McCorry’s!
